Classical Guitarist's Concert Tomorrow
 CANBY - Classical guitar songs with warm harp-like tones ranging from Renaissance to contemporary including Bach,
Weiss, Albeniz, and Villa-Lobos, are on tap to fill the Canby Pioneer Chapel tomorrow, Sunday, Dec. 14th.
Guitarist William Jenks, a resident of Aurora, will be
performing classical guitar music in a concert beginning at 3 PM.
Jenks, a 1989 graduate of North Marion High School, performs on the concert stage, as well as for weddings, corporate events
and private parties throughout the Portland metropolitan area.
In addition to performing classical guitar - a guitar which has nylon strings instead of steel and a slightly smaller body
and neck slightly wider then an acoustic guitar- he teaches guitar to people of all ages and skill level.
Currently he has 35 Students who range in age from seven to 60. His
students will be performing prior to Jenks' concert, in a recital beginning at 2 PM, at the Northwest Third Avenue and North Elm Street chapel.
"I enjoy working with people.. Seeing their progress, and seeing them achieve their goals," Jenks said.
Jenks began his musical career singing choral music at age six, which later led to
his performance at New York's Carnegie Hall.
He began playing guitar 14 years ago under the instruction of Dr. Ken Johnson at
Colorado Christian University, where he graduated with a Bachelors of Arts degree. He also studied with world-renowned classical guitarists including Christopher
Parkening, Scott Tennant, Ricardo Iznaola, and Bryan Johanson.
Jenks is a professional guitar teacher and has studios in both Aurora and Milwaukie
where he teaches private lessons. He also teaches beginning guitar through the Canby and West Linn Community Education programs.
His beginning guitar class through Canby Community Education is for ages 12 and up. It teaches participants the basics in chords, technique, tuning, establishing a
practice routine, note reading, and performance.
The class is eight sessions, beginning Thursday, Jan. 15, and costs $100.
